Basics about Grow Tent

An area of any size where plants are grown under controlled conditions is called a grow room or growth chamber. Grow tent is one the most typical and common grow chambers we can find nowadays for indoor growing. There are countless reasons for using a growth space. Through the use of growing lights, sunlight, or a mix of the two, plants can be grown inside your grow tent. However, growing rooms can become extremely hot due to the heat produced by high power lamps. The development of LED Grow Light solves this problem.

Size of grow chamber varies from 24’’ x 24’’ to 120’’ x 120’’ or even bigger than that. To determine the size of your grow tent, do a measurement of the space you are planning to have the grow tent at, take the ceiling height into consideration as well, and plan configuration inside your grow space beforehand. Other than the size of grow tent, we will discuss three main factors that have great influences on growing inside a grow tent.

First, the medium your plants thrive in. Nowadays, via means such as hydroponics and aeroponics, plants in a grow-room can be grown in soil or without soil. Not only is growing more cost-effective in a soilless medium, often a much higher yield is also obtained, as well as faster fruit maturation. Usually, soilless blends do not hold nutrients, so that the gardener can use the optimal nutrient mixture for the crop. The most commonly used ingredients for indoor soilless mixes are vermiculite, perlite, coconut husk and rockwool. On the other hand, soilless growing requires much more technique, attention, and accuracy. As the most common growing medium, soil is still the first choice of cannabis or non-medical plants growers. The most basic requirement of soil would be nutrients and proper pH level. Nutrients products typically indicate N-P-K = ‘’x percent -y percent -z percent" showing the percentages, i.e., nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium, of essential nutritional elements. Nutrients are often supplied to the soil through fertilizers, but caution is required for such practice, while a soil pH of 5.8 to 6.5 would be the best for most cannabis plants.

Second, lighting. High-intensity discharge lamps (the most common for this application are sodium vapor lamps for flowering and metal halide lamps for growing), compact fluorescent lamps, and conventional fluorescent lamps are the three most common types of artificial lighting for indoor growing. Due to their low energy requirements and very low heat emission, full spectrum indoor LED grow lights are becoming more prevalent in growing rooms. There’s one thing that has to be mentioned here that light period is where magic happens to cannabis plants. Under artificial illumination, from germination until flowering, the plant usually remains under a regime of 16-24 hours of light and 0-8 hours of darkness, with longer light cycles conducive to vegetative growth and longer dark periods conducive to flowering. In general, cannabis needs a period of light (only 13 hours of continuous light to stay in the vegetative process) and a period of darkness for optimum production. Flowering is usually caused by a hormonal reaction within the plant initiated by an increase in the duration of its dark period, i.e. for bract/bracteole (flowering) to begin with, the plant requires ample sustained darkness for at least 12 hours a day. In order to begin flowering, some Indica strains need as little as 8 hours of darkness, while some Sativa strains require up to 13 hours. That is also the reason why light-proof is one of the most important factors people evaluate a grow tent. Lumo-X 600D Emerald Green and Black Diamond Series grow tent both made with thickened canvas, double-layered ventilation and AC cord ports, black-out cloth attached to the back of all zipper lines, etc. ensure an absolute light proof environment for your grow while the inside reflective wall of Lumo-X grow tent can dramatically increase the lighting efficiency in the grow room when your lights are turned on. In the end, it’s always good to calculate and plan before you purchase a grow tent. For example, if you are planning to use an HPS light, a tent with a ceiling lower than 72’’ might not be a good choice no matter how large the tent is.
Third, ventilation. Growing spaces, as a regulated environment, provide many benefits over outdoor alternatives. Without sufficient ventilation, however, the plants can consume resources faster than they can be replenished, such as oxygen and carbon dioxide. For optimal plant growth, adequate gas exchange is required. Ventilation is also an important technique for maintaining an optimum plant growth temperature. Advanced growth space also requires air conditioning to keep temperatures going down, as well as CO2 to raise the temperature. For medical plants growers, odor elimination would be another topic that always requires attention. Lumo-X Air Cloud Series has various choices of inline duct fans, air ducting, and carbon filters with different size, material, power options, provides you fully privarite growing environment, and highly effective temperature & humidity control, while all Lumo-X Grow Tent come with multiple double-sealing ventilation ports and exclusively thickened ceiling crossbars to ensure ventilation efficiency and provide sturdy support to your ventilation and lighting fixtures.

A grow tent with detail-oriented designs, pre-embedded functions and accessories such as observation windows, waterproof floor tray, and trellis netting straps can make your grow easy and enjoyable from equipment installation, to seedling, veg and eventual harvest.
